We will pick you up from your accommodation at 4:30 a.m. and take a bus to the village of Cachora. After a short break for breakfast, we will prepare the mules that will carry our gear.
From there, we will begin the trek on a beautiful Andean path with stunning views of mountain ranges and snow-capped peaks.
After about three hours of walking, we will reach Capuliyoc, a high point where we will have lunch, overlooking the valley through which the Apurímac River flows.
If we’re lucky, we might spot some condors soaring above. Then, we will descend for approximately two and a half hours to Chikiska, located near the river, where we will spend our first night (dinner included).
After an early breakfast, we will continue our journey.
Today, we will hike for 6 to 7 hours. First, we will descend to the river, where we’ll see the winding trail we must climb.
We’ll cross the river and begin the steep ascent to the village of Marampata. Along the way, we may encounter locals preparing the famous chicha de caña, which we can taste.
After 4 to 5 hours of strenuous effort, we will enjoy a hearty lunch to recharge before continuing the trek to the Choquequirao camp.
Upon arrival, there will be the option to descend to the lower part of the camp, where we can visit an Inca temple surrounded by terraces dedicated to “UNU” (water). We will return to the camp for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, we will start our walk early to reach the archaeological site of Choquequirao in time for the sunrise. We will explore various parts of the site with a two-hour guided tour.
Then, you’ll have some free time to visit the upper part of the archaeological site and see the terraces with llama representations.
Afterward, we will retrace our steps to Marampata for lunch, then descend to our first campsite in Chikiska (dinner and overnight stay).
After breakfast, we will face our last physical challenge: a 3 to 4-hour climb back to Capuliyoc.
After lunch, we will continue for another 2 to 3 hours of walking to reach Cachora, where we will take the bus back to Cusco (estimated arrival at 6:00 p.m.).
