Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick in Tambopata National Park is one of the most popular sights.
It is the largest clay lick in the world. This offers visitors an opportunity to spot various species of macaws, parrots, and parakeets. On our Cusco to Tambopata Peru Tour, you will be able to spot all eight species of macaws, including Scarlet Macaws.
Tambopata National Reserve is home to over 1500 species of butterflies and over 650 varieties of birds. Tambopata Macaw Clay lick or Chuncho Macaw clay lick is a lifetime experience to most.
Every day, at daybreak, hundreds of brightly colored macaws, parrots, and parakeets fly to eat the clay from the cliff. The clay here contains distinct minerals which help them to flush out the toxins from their bodies.
We have designed the three days tour to offer you the most. With our local expert, you will learn about the life of the Ese Ejas. They are the native community that has been living here for decades.
You will also be familiarised with the life of different birds, animals, and plants.

Our trip to the Tambopata with Jungle Pro was fantastic. They picked us up in the plaza. We started our tour on a boat eating a delicious vegetarian friend rice which was wrapped in a leave so we could just dispose of it in the river. The team showed us many claylicks, we had a wonderful walk to Sachavacayoc to see the blue and gold macaws on the palm swamp. The boat driver was very skilled at positioning the boat so we could all have a good view and whenever someone spotted wildlife he would return so we all got a good look. Not all companies are so eco sensitive and promote wildlife viewings. Jungle Pro is definitely a great choice if you want to see wildlife.
So many parrots, macaws!
As we stayed at the TRC we came here twice with a group and saw so many birds (August).
The birds were noisy and it was lovely seeing them being out in the wild and apparently so lovely. I dislike seeing them in cages!
The clay wall is pretty far away, so difficult to take good photos, but even Those who flew close to us I found difficult to photograph.
I did the three days Tambopata Chucho tour and learnta lot about the history, animal life and plants those are exclusive to the region. The guides were extremely knowledgable and happy to answer all of our questions. During the trip there were maybe a bit too much focus on bird watching. All in all I can highly recommend choosing Palotoa Amazon Travel. The emailcommunication prior to the trip was both prompt and frictionless -besides informingabout the trip. I was also lucky to get adviseon other practicalities regarding my trip to Peru (vaccines, money exchane, sights etc.)
