Itinerary

Day 1Puerto Maldonado - Lodge - Monkey Island

Upon your arrival at the airport or bus station, we will greet you and provide transportation to our  office for registration.

From there, we will transfer you to our dock, where we will board a boat for a 40-minute journey to our hotel.

To welcome you, we will offer a refreshing fruit juice made from local fruits, and our guide will inform you of our hotel’s policies.

After settling into your pre-reserved rooms, you will have a pleasurable rest. In the afternoon, we will visit the Monkey Island, located in the middle of the Madre de Dios River, just a few minutes from our hotel.

Here, you can observe different species of monkeys, including a hybrid species, and with luck, you may also spot sloths and turtles.

We will return to the hotel for lunch for a delicious lunch and a short siesta

Subsequently, we will embark on a two-hour hike through the dense tropical forest, guided by an expert local guide.

We will show you our trails and introduce you to a variety of medicinal plants and trees that can live for over six hundred years.

Along the way, you will have the opportunity to see wildlife such as monkeys, parrots, guacamayos, armadillos, reptiles, insects, frogs, spiders, and more.

You will feel the pure energy of the mother forest and experience magical moments within the Tambopata National Reserve.

In the evening, we will take our boat to search for nocturnal animals along the banks of the Madre de Dios River.

We will have the opportunity to see caimans of different sizes, owls, nightjars, and with luck, the world’s largest rodent, the capybara. We will return for dinner.

Day 2Lodge - Lake Sandoval - "Matsigenka" Family - Nocturnal Exploration

One of the most exhilarating experiences for wildlife enthusiasts is witnessing the abundant fauna at dawn or dusk.

In our case, we opted for an early morning excursion to Lake Sandoval within the Tambopata National Reserve, where we would be awestruck by the incomparable biodiversity of the lake.

We embarked on a 1.8-mile (3 km) wooden walkway, surrounded by lush vegetation, and were constantly surprised by the diverse wildlife that inhabited this place.

At the end of our journey, we boarded a wooden canoe for a tranquil ride across the lake, where we could observe caimans, giant otters, herons, tortoises, monkeys, macaws, wild ducks, and much more.

We’ll return to our lodge for a hearty lunch before embarking on an unforgettable afternoon adventure with a local Matsigenka family.

Learn about their culture, how to use bows and arrows, spin and weave cotton for traditional clothing, and even how to start a fire using natural resources.

We’ll then return to our boat and head back to the city as the sun set.

As night falls, the jungle comes alive with a majestic nocturnal world, vastly different from the daytime, and we’ll set out with flashlights to explore the trails in search of nocturnal creatures such as porcupines, tarantulas, insects, reptiles, owls, monkeys, and more.

Visitors will return to the hotel for dinner and a well-deserved rest.

Day 3Local Farm visit - Lodge - Puerto Maldonado - End of Services

Following a pleasant evening and a satisfying breakfast, we’ll venture to a local farm to gain insight into the art of grafting plants and observe diverse soil types.

Our visit also allowed us to indulge in delectable samples of tropical forest crops, including coffee, various cacao varieties, citrus fruits, ingas, bananas, and more.
