Ausangate is a mountain in the Andes mountain range of Peru. It is located in the Cusco region, and is the highest peak of the Vilcanota range, reaching an altitude of 6,384 meters (20,945 feet). The mountain is considered sacred by local indigenous communities and is an important place of pilgrimage for the traditional Andean religion.
The area around Ausangate is also known for its beautiful natural landscape, which includes snow-capped peaks, glacial lakes, and high-altitude grasslands.
The region is home to a variety of wildlife, including llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and the Andean condor.
Hiking and trekking in the Ausangate region has become increasingly popular in recent years, with several well-established hiking routes offering stunning views of the mountain and the surrounding landscape.

Ausangate is a sacred mountain for the Incas. It is one of the highest in the region with an altitude of 20,945 feet.
The hike through its trails is impressive, with stunning views of the Vilcanota mountain range. Visitors can expect glaciers, mountain lakes, and a great diversity of flora and fauna.
The pickups for this tour are planned for the morning, the time will be confirmed a day before the tour’s beginning to let us arrange the pickup order based in the accommodations of the participants of the group, an estimated time for the pickups goes from 4:30 AM to 5:00 AM to leave the city of Cusco.
The bus ride will last somewhat of 6 hours, visitors’ first destination is Pacchanta, a small town located on the way to Ausangate’s mountain range. Our stop here will allow us to stretch ourselves a bit after the bus ride and we’ll also enjoy a breakfast made out of local ingredients.
Once in Pacchanta, we will enjoy a nutritious typical breakfast from the region. We will have a brief break during which our guide will provide detailed information about the adventure that is about to begin. After breakfast, we will continue our tour on foot to the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate.
The tour covers approximately 7.5 km and will take us around five hours to explore.
During this time, we will visit the Azulqocha, Orco Otorongo, China Otorongo, Puqacocha, Alqacocha, Qomercocha and Patacocha lagoons, and marvel at the sight of the majestic mountains such as Ausangate, Mariposa, Jampa, Pucapunta, Caracol and Tinke.
Along the way, we will have the opportunity to observe native birds, alpacas, llamas, vizcachas and, with a little luck, the majestic Andean condor.
Upon completing the lagoon circuit, we will return to Pacchanta where we will enjoy a delicious lunch.
Then, we will relax in the community’s medicinal hot springs, recovering and recharging our energy after a day of incredible discoveries in the Andes.
Finally, our unforgettable adventure to the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate will conclude with our return to the city of Cusco, arriving approximately at 6:30 pm.
